Real Velociraptor size: turkey, feathers and the movie lie
Real Velociraptor was turkey-sized and feathered. True size, claws and hunting of the famous raptor.

How small the real hunter was
The movie raptors are a lie three times over: real Velociraptor was about 2 meters long but only 50 centimeters tall and weighed 15 to 20 kilograms — a turkey, not a tiger. It lived 75 to 71 million years ago in Mongolia, and its fossils show quill knobs on the arms, which means feathers, probably for display and warming eggs.
The film animals are closer to Deinonychus or Utahraptor, bigger American cousins reaching 3 and 7 meters. Scientists kept the famous name because audiences already knew it — the book author admitted swapping the name for drama. So every Jurassic Park chase scene shows the wrong species at triple size.
Claws, packs and brains
Velociraptor carried one killer weapon: a curved 9-centimeter claw on each foot, held off the ground while running and driven down like a hook. It likely pinned small prey and ate it alive rather than slashing like a knife — a gruesome but efficient strategy for protoceratops-sized meals and lizards.
Pack hunting is possible but unproven: most skeletons are loners, and the famous fighting pair of Velociraptor and Protoceratops died locked together, possibly fighting over a nest. Its brain was large for a dinosaur, with keen smell and binocular vision — smart enough for ambush, not for opening doors.
